Spiral Notebook(s)/composition notebook (ONLY allowed FOR NOTES)

 Assignments/Exams

  1. Homework assigned Monday through Friday. No late work will be accepted for FULL CREDIT.
  2. All work must be neat, include your name, period, and date in the upper right hand corner. At the top of the page, include a heading (Assignment, page number, # of problems, etc.). Papers turned in without a name will not receive credit.
  3. All homework must be done in pencil on white, lined paper (NOT IN A SPIRAL NOTEBOOK), problems must be copied, all work must be shown and answers neatly and clearly written.
  4. Projects will be assigned occasionally. Any projects not turned in on time will receive a lowered grade for each day late. They must be received on the due date to receive full credit.
  5. Three or more missing homework assignments = Unsatisfactory in Work Habits grade
  6. Exams are given EVERY FRIDAY. Students who earn below a C on an exam can do test corrections. The highest ‘redo’ grade possible will be a C.

LATE WORK: If your child does not turn in an assignment, he/she will complete a form explaining why they were not able to turn in their assignment on time. He/she will be required to complete the assignment during the advisory “tutoring” period. The advisory teacher MUST sign it in order to receive late credit (at most 70%).

TEST CORRECTIONS: Students who earn below a C on any exam have the OPTION to do test corrections. Students will only be required to redo the incorrect problems on a separate piece of paper, WITH ALL WORK SHOWN, attach the original test to the corrections, and turn it in the next day. They will receive partial credit for each problem that was redone correctly. The additional points will be added to their original score and the highest grade they can earn will be a C (70%). Students who earned 70% or more on any exam WILL NOT be able to do test corrections.

Absences

Students who are absent are responsible to get the class notes and work assigned from a classmate or www.mscao.com. Students with an excused absence will be allowed one day for each day absent to turn in work that was missed for full credit. All homework and assignments will be posted on the class calendar and website.

Missed exams will be made at the discretion of the teacher. It is the student’s responsibility to arrange the make-up time.

 Student Planner

Your child should have their planner in class with them everyday. At the beginning of each class, they should write down the daily agenda and homework assignment for the day. Every Friday, a parent signature is required which indicates that a parent has reviewed the assignments for the week.

Classroom Rules

Always come to class on time, be in your seat, and prepared to work.
Do not talk while the teacher or a student is talking.
Respect yourself, other students, teachers and classroom materials.
Always raise your hand and wait for permission to speak or get out of your seat.
No eating, drinking or chewing gum in the classroom. Only water is permitted.
The teacher dismisses the class, not the bell.
Any student that cheats on any part of an assignment/exam will receive a zero on the entire assignment/exam.

Consequences

The following will be the general procedure for most classroom infractions:

  1. A warning from the teacher.
  2. Student may be moved to another seat and assigned community service (paper pick-up)
  3. Sent out of the classroom with an assignment and a phone call home.
  4. Visit with counselor, detention, and a “U” on the Progress/Report Card

 Grades

Grades are based on the student’s performance on class work, homework, quizzes, tests, and occastional projects. Grades are determined using a weighted system accumulated from all assignments and exams, with the majority of points coming from exams. Tests are weighted at 60%, Class work is 20% and Homework is 20%. The grade scale is as follows:

100%-90% = A              89%-80% = B                79%-70% = C                69%-55% = D    Below 55% = F

Extra Credit will be offered periodically throughout the semester. Those who choose to do the extra credit must turn it in on time. No late work will be accepted.

Work Habit Grade

For each grading period (5 weeks), the students must:
